The Vigvam hanger, designed by Hochu Rayu, draws its inspiration from the lightweight and stable construction of a typical Indian home - the vigvam. This form was also prevalent among other nomadic tribes, most of whom were hunters. As a nod to this heritage, Hochu Rayu incorporated antlers, an ancient symbol of protection, welfare, and guarding, into the design.
What sets the Vigvam hanger apart is its unique properties. It is lightweight, easy to transport, and easy to store. The hanger consists of a plywood veneered base and a set of hooks in the form of stylized deer antlers. The choice of material, wood veneer, is available in Ukrainian walnut or eucalyptus textures, adding a touch of elegance to its practical design.
The design process involved meticulous research and overcoming technical challenges. The team aimed to simplify the construction for the end consumer while maintaining stability. They achieved this by designing a special way of fastening the hooks without extra tools or fittings. The metallic hooks, which fix the hanger stands, are also very simple to use - just put them crosswise in the special holes.
The Vigvam hanger is versatile and can fit in a variety of spaces, making it an excellent choice for small studios, living rooms, children's rooms, cozy cafes, or office spaces. Its packaging was also designed with optimal transportation in mind, using a cardboard tube with the item's logotype and brand information.
Since its design in 2016, the Vigvam hanger has been sold on the Archiproducts portal from February 2017. Its unique blend of practicality and symbolism has earned it the Golden A' Furniture Design Award in 2017, a testament to the team's creativity and dedication to design excellence.
In conclusion, the Vigvam hanger by Hochu Rayu is a shining example of how design can seamlessly blend functionality with cultural symbolism. It stands as a testament to the power of innovative design and the impact it can have on our everyday lives. The copyrights for this unique design belong to the design bureau Hochu rayu, further cementing their place in the world of innovative design.
